Overview

 

Rainforest Alliance India is seeking part-time consultants in different districts of AP and Coorg, Hassan, and Chikmagalur districts of Karnataka, who will be required to closely work with Rainforest Alliance’s team in these states in delivering  Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard (RA-SAS) training for smallholder farmers, as part of the implementation of its project, “Transforming Agricultural Systems and Strengthening Local Economies in high biodiversity areas of India through Sustainable Landscape Management and public-private finance”.

 

The consultants should also have skills to support smallholder farmers in certification-related documentation and audits as per requirements from time to time under the Project and or as per the requests from Farmer Producer Organisations(FPOs) or similar Farmer Associations.

 

The consultant will coordinate activities directly with Rainforest Alliance and its project implementation teams in AP and Karnataka.

 

The Consultant will report to Rainforest Alliance Staff, Senior Technical Associate, AP/Karnataka. The consultant will be the key interface between Rainforest Alliance and Smallholder Producers in AP and Karnataka to assist in the training of smallholder farmers on RA-SAS, under the GEF (SABAL) Project. The target will be to assist in the training and guidance of smallholder farmer members of FPOs and similar associations in the landscapes. The consultant will be assigned specific training or support activities by the Rainforest Alliance or requested by the FPO/Farmer Association.

 

Scope of Consultancy Services            

1. Training and Capacity Building:

  • The consultant shall be a trainer on RA-SAS in AP/KA

  • Shall organize and conduct the scheduled training for the farmer groups/ farmer associations on RA-SAS standards, as per project requirements from time to time

  • Shall adhere to the training design, usage of training material, and other resources as required. The consultant should be fluent and well-prepared to deliver according to the prevailing situation.

  • Each training session will be held for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 hours, with participation of 5-30 farmers per session.

  • Shall attend the training programs conducted by Rainforest Alliance’s Program Manager (Training &Certification) and/or sessions conducted by SABAL Project team members.

  • Shall attend specific other training programs conducted by RA/RALN as and when invited

  • Should assist the Senior Technical Associate, AP/KA in planning and implementing certification training, at the venue suggested by the host organization.

  • The consultant shall join any other trainings and use the information to update the training resources used for the certification training.

 

2.     Deliverables

  • The consultant shall conduct training sessions and after completion of training, he/she should submit the attendance sheets of the participants, feedback forms, running charts, travel details, and monthly timesheets along with invoice,

  • The consultant should be aware that the photographs and any other documentation done during the training sessions are RA property and he/she should submit the same to RA after completion of the training.

  • The consultant should submit reports of each training session conducted within 7 days after training.

3.     Take up all other tasks that may be assigned from time to time as per project requirements.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Having a degree or equivalent in agricultural sciences/horticulture, or related fields.

  • Previous experience as a trainer will be an added advantage.  

  • Any experience in third-party certifications will be considered as additional weightage.

  • Should have excellent English and Telugu/Kannada communication skills, both verbal and written including the ability to write reports.

  • Should be well-versed in basic computer office management and presentation skills.

  • Should be able to work collaboratively with others, including stakeholders and team members from RA and RA’s partner organizations.

  • Having Development Sector experience will be an added advantage.

  • Ability and skills to understand smallholder farming and communities.

  • Ability to identify the beneficiary and facilitate doing business.  

  • Ability to travel extensively.
